PRIVATE SECTOR DEVELOPMENT
Four UN volunteers are working under the CPAP-Country Programme Action Plan 2006-2010, Building capacity to reduce human poverty . This programme builds on the successes of the Private Sector Development Programme under CCF I, Income Generation and Sustainable Livelihood under CCF II, and the International year of microfinance (2005). The component focuses on support for policy and regulatory reforms for micro-small and medium scale enterprises (MSMEs), enterprise promotion and development of potential and existing MSMEs. One of the target's of the programme is for Private Sector Development Companies (PSDCs) to attain 100% self sustainability. Having served as Institutional Development Advisors based at the Private Sector Development Companies (PSDCs), the four UNVs have since re-located to the component office in Kampala along with their counterparts. Their mandate has not changed only they now provide more focused support to PSDCs following the different thematic areas highlighted below:
Edmund Ayonga, (Kenyan) Financial Monitoring Consultant
Andrew Bahemuka, (Ugandan) Results Tracking Consultant
Mary Rose Redlin, (American) Resource Mobilisation Consultant
Mary Tinuoye, (Nigerian) Business Development Services Consultant
The main aim of having the consultants, including these four UNVs, is to maximize and collaborate their intervention to help each PSDC Board of Directors and Management accomplish its objectives. They do this by evaluating the effectiveness of each companies resource mobilization, financial risks and asset management, business development service delivery, and recently, embarking on results tracking and documentation. It is through this concerted efforts that the PSDCs, which in the past years were operating as ‘projects', have now turned around their perception, outlook, practice, and day-to-day operations towards self-sustainability both in funding and human resource.
These volunteers are focused to make a positive difference and add value to the services delivered by the PSDCs. |
